Star Spangled Salute: 2 Veterans, One Amazing Mountain Climb

Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors Marine Corps Special Operations veterans John Nelson and Jonathon Blank. Nelson says he remembers that moment he stepped away from Blank just as an IED went off.  The explosion took Blanks’s legs. Blank said that he and Nelson have shared a lot of blood, sweat and tears together but it’s all been worth it because of what they recently accomplished. Nelson, carried Blank, who weighs 135 lbs, on his back for 14.3 miles and up 4500 feet as they climbed Mount Timpanogos in Utah.  On veteran’s day, the two men plan to take the summit of Mt. Whitney in California, the tallest mountain in California at 14,500 feet.  Good luck gentlemen and thank you for your service.
