Sedgwick County commissioners will have discussions next week on a ballot proposal to allow electronic gaming machines in the county.
Voters defeated proposals in 2007 to allow a casino and to allow slot machines at the Wichita Greyhound Park. Shortly after the vote, the Greyhound Park closed.
Commissioners have a resolution on their September 4th meeting agenda that would allow for a ballot question in the November 5th general election. The question would again ask voters if electronic gaming machines would be allowed at a parimutuel facility.
There have been discussions in the Kansas Legislature in recent years on proposals to bring back horse and greyhound racing and allow for slot machines, but none of them were approved.
