Not guilty plea in death of 2-year-old Zaiden Javonovich

The mother of a 2-year-old Wichita boy who died in April from what authorities say was malnutrition and dehydration has pleaded not guilty in the boy’s death.

22-year-old Brandi Marchant made the plea Monday morning in Sedgwick County District Court in connection to the death of Zaiden Javonovich.  He was found dead inside of a mobile home on South Hydraulic back on April 11.

Police had been called to the home on the report of a domestic disturbance.  Officers found Zaiden and his 4-month-old brother inside the couple’s home.  The brother was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

At the time, police said Zaiden may have been dead for several days prior to the 911 call place by a neighbor.  He reportedly weighed just 15 pounds at the time of his death.

Marchant and the boy’s father Patrick Javonovich are both charged with five counts including first-degree murder, child abuse and aggravated child endangerment.  Patrick Javonovich will be in court Tuesday.
