More than 300 firefighters and instructors from 18 states are gathering in Wichita for an annual training event.
The Wichita HOT (Hands-On Training) Fire School will have 40 instructors providing classroom and training exercises. Most of the training will take place at the Wichita Fire Department’s Regional Training Center at 4780 East 31st Street South.
Retired Wichita battalion chief Sid Newby said there will be classroom training Saturday and on Sunday the firefighters will be working at locations across the city for hands-on training in various types of fire situations. Newby said the training will be relevant and realistic for fire attack operations, search and rescue, and other scenarios.
