Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors Topeka veteran Randy Whelpley. 19 years ago, Randy wanted to do something to honor and help those veterans battling PTSD, so he created a BBQ event called the R and R Smokeout on the campus of the Topeka VA. When the event started, 35 people showed up the first year. That number has grown to over 500. In March of last year, Randy passed away but his legacy will live on because recently the VA in Topeka dedicated the Topeka Campus Gazebo Park to Randy to always remember his kindness and caring. Thank you Randy for your service.
