KDOT says crews are ready for winter storm

The Kansas Department of transportation says they are prepared for the winter storm expected to blanket most of the state.

The department says field crews have been undergoing ice and snow removal this month, and routine maintenance on vehicles has been completed.  KDOT also has 200,000 tons of salt and sand available to treat state roads, highways and interstates.

Where possible, crews are laying down a salt brine mixture to pre-treat roads to make them easier to clear of snow and ice.  KDOT officials remind motorists to never pass a snow plow on the right, and to slow down and use caution around snow removal vehicles.

In February, 5 KDOT snow plows were struck by vehicles in a 24 hour period in the Kansas City Metro area.  For the latest on road conditions across the state, you can visit Kandrive.org.  For the latest on road conditions in the Wichita-metro area, visit Wichway.org.
