Wichita mayoral candidate files lawsuit over attack ad

Wichita mayoral candidate Brandon Whipple has filed a lawsuit against a group that created an attack ad directed at him.

The lawsuit names a group called Protect Wichita’s Girls LLC, and Matthew Colborn, who produced the ad.  The suit also names a “John Doe#1” and “John Doe#2” who paid for the ad.

Whipple’s lawsuit said the ad is a “disgusting false and defamatory hit piece,” and it alleges that young women were paid to pose as women who had been sexually harassed, and the women were told that the ad was a public service announcement against domestic violence.

Incumbent mayor Jeff Longwell has condemned the ad and said his campaign was not involved in the production of the ad.

Whipple’s lawsuit is seeking $75,000 in damages.
