Wichita pilot program will allow body cameras for federal task forces

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for Kansas has announced a pilot program with the Wichita Police Department.  The program begins November 1st and it will allow local and state officers who serve on federal task forces to wear body cameras while serving arrest warrants or conducting other operations.

The pilot program will also begin in Houston, Detroit, Phoenix, Salt Lake City and in Oakland, California.

The U.S. Attorney for Kansas, Stephen McAllister, said local and state officers are critical members of federal task forces, and this program will respect their policies on body cameras.    State and local agencies that require their officers to wear body cameras have asked the Justice Department to allow the officers to wear the cameras when they are acting as a member of a federal task force operation, in situations where the use of force may be necessary.
