Whipple wins Wichita mayor’s race in unofficial totals

Brandon Whipple has won the Wichita mayor’s office, according to unofficial numbers from the Sedgwick County election office.

Whipple had 22,256 votes, for 46 percent of the vote.  Incumbent Jeff Longwell had 17,516 votes for 36 percent and the write-in votes had 17 percent, with 8,516 votes.   Lyndy Wells had been running as a write-in candidate in the race.

Whipple, a Kansas House member who has represented the 96th district, led throughout the night and maintained a sizable lead over Longwell.

Incumbent city council members Becky Tuttle, Jeff Blubaugh and Bryan Frye won new terms in office.  Tuttle captured almost 61 percent of the vote in the district 2 race, defeating challengers Joseph Scapa with almost 30 percent and Rodney Wren with almost 9 percent.

In the Wichita school board races, District 3 board member Ernestine Krehbiel was unopposed and will get a new term.   In district 4, incumbent Stan Reeser was the apparent winner with 14,940 votes for 50 percent.  Challenger James Kilpatrick had 14,631 votes for 49 percent.    The at large race had incumbent Sheril Logan as the winner with 17,127 votes, for almost 53 percent.  Challenger Joseph Shepard had 15,059 votes for almost 47 percent.
