Salvation Army announces Christmas goal

The Salvation Army in Wichita is starting its 2019 Christmas Campaign, and the goal will be $1.2 million to support programs and services offered throughout the year.

The Wichita City Commander, Major James Curl, said in a press release that there is a concern about a shorter season with Thanksgiving falling later in the year.  He said volunteers are needed to ring bells during the Red Kettle Campaign.

Shifts are a minimum of two hours at locations throughout Sedgwick County and they can be reserved at RegisterToRing.com   The Red Kettle Campaign will be active through Tuesday, December 24th.

The Salvation Army is offering a digital donation option this year.   People can scan a QR code at the kettle locations, and the apps are free.    People can scan from any iPhone or Android device and make a donation.

The 2nd annual Red Kettle 5K Fun Run and Walk will be held Saturday at the Hiawatha Camp and Retreat Center at 1601 East 51st Street North.    There will be a National Toy Drive on November 9th at all Sedgwick County Walmart locations to supplement the Angel Tree Toy Distribution.

The Wichita Fire Department will have its annual Christmas Boot Block donation campaign on Saturdays, November 9th, 16th and 23rd.  They will be located at Walmart stores, Towne East Mall.   All Dillons stores will be hosting the campaign on November 16th.
