One person is dead following a house fire in north Wichita.
Firefighters were called to a home in the 2000 block of North Jackson around 11 p.m. Sunday. When they arrived they found smoke coming from the home and learned that someone may be trapped inside.
After entering the home they found an unconscious woman in a bedroom on the first floor. Firefighters and EMS worked to revive her, but she was pronounced dead a short time later.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation but appears to have started in the laundry room. Damage is estimated at $40,000 to the home and contents.
The name of the woman has not been released.
