Wichita man pleads guilty to September carjacking

A Wichita man has pleaded guilty to a federal charge of carjacking that was part of an incident in September with a chase and officers firing shots at a speeding car.

30-year-old Zachary Ausdemore admitted that on September 10th, he confronted an elderly couple and threatened to kill them unless they gave him the keys to their car.  This happened near 29th and Meridian.

The incident began at 21st and Amidon when officers tried to stop a stolen Jeep in the parking lot of a restaurant.  The Jeep sped toward police and officers fired shots, injuring the driver and Ausdemore.  The Jeep stopped near 29th and Meridian and Ausdemore got out and ran to a house, where he took a car from an elderly couple.  Police chased him until he ran into a ditch.

A 27-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman were also arrested after the incident, and they’re facing charges in district court.

Ausdemore will be sentenced on February 3rd.   He could face up to 15 years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000.
