Organizers say donations are “way down” for Operation Holiday

Officials with HumanKind Ministries in Wichita said Thursday that donations are “way down” for the annual Operation Holiday program, which provides assistance to needy families at Christmas.

HumanKind director of special events Mis Gaston said in a press release that the greatest need is for children’s winter coats.  The agency is looking for donations of non-perishable food items and new or gently-used children’s coats and blankets.  Donations can be made at any Dillon’s store or at the Operation Holiday warehouse at Towne West.

HumanKind said it has plenty of adult coats is is no longer able to accept and store donations of those items.

The agency is planning to distribute food and clothing to families from December 16th through the 18th.   The annual campaign helps around 14,000 to 16,000 low-income families each year.
