Wichita Police say they have made an arrest in connection to the death of 31-year-old Robert Junior. A man is being charged with 1st-degree murder, aggravated battery, criminal possession of a firearm, obstruction, and outstanding warrants.

The Sedgwick County Jail shows 25-year-old Chevy Jones of Wichita was booked late Friday night on additional charges including probation violation, domestic battery, and fugitive from justice.

WPD says Jones was sought as part of the investigation into the homicide of Robert Junior, which happened in the 8500 block of east Parkmont early Tuesday morning.

Police spotted Jones getting into a car at an apartment complex in the 2600 block of South Topeka and attempted to arrest him around 5:00 Friday, but he attempted to speed off in a 2002 Grand Marquis. Jones rammed that vehicle into a Wichita Police car, fled on foot, and then officers arrested him inside of the Walmart at Pawnee and Broadway.

Police say they believe Jones had ingested narcotics and so he was taken to a hospital for treatment and released to the county jail. An officer was injured during Jones’ arrest and was treated and released from a local hospital.

Jones’ bonds are currently set at more than $200,000.

Junior’s family has set up a GoFundMe here.
