Star Spangled Salute: A Double Amputee Veteran Goes Big on His 90th Birthday

Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors 90-year old Air Force veteran Stan Rohrer.  Stan has always been active.  He is a retired math and physics teacher, who lost both his legs in his 80’s due to blood clots. That didn’t slow him down.  The avid biker, wheelchair tennis player and kayaker modified his truck so he can drive himself anywhere. He uses pulleys to get his wheelchair in and out, and unloads his kayaks by himself.  He says when you’re hanging out with younger people you have to put forth a little extra effort.  So, when his daughter asked him if he wanted to celebrate his 90th birthday the other day by jumping out of a plane at 13,000 feet it was an easy yes.  His daughter said, “He’s an inspiration. Living is a choice every day, and I think if you choose that, there’s a lot you can do.”  Keep living Stan and thank you for your service.
