Weekend winter storm headed to Kansas

A winter storm is making its way into Kansas this weekend.

Our partners at KWCH Storm Team 12 say a rain and snow mix will develop Friday over the state, changing over to light snow Friday night into Saturday morning.  We could see 1 to 3 inches of snow in the Wichita area, with heavier snowfall to the south and east, though there is a possibility that we could see some heavier snow fall totals.

The snow should end for south-central Kansas by Saturday afternoon.  Temperatures will stay below freezing Saturday, with a slight warm up Sunday.

However, an arctic blast could reach the area by Wednesday, dropping temperatures to the lowest we have seen so far this winter.

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service for south central and southeast Kansas from Friday evening into Saturday afternoon.  The watch includes Sedgwick, Harvey, Harper, Sumner, Marion, Chase, Butler and Cowley counties.
