Wichita police warn of telephone scam

Wichita police are reporting a telephone scam by someone impersonating a police officer.

A citizen received a voicemail Thursday telling him to call a specific police sergeant about an ongoing civil issue.  The citizen called a number back and got a recording stating that he has called the Wichita Police Department and it has numbers to push for different sections.

Police said this is not associated with the WPD and it’s a scam.   The number mentioned in the voicemail was 316-202-8101.

Police say anyone with questions about the legitimacy of a call from the WPD can call city hall at 268-4111, which is answered at all times.   Residents can also call the following numbers:

·         WPD Investigations – (316) 268-4407

·         Patrol North Police Station – (316) 350-3400

·         Patrol South Police Station – (316) 350-3440

·         Patrol West Police Station – (316) 350-3420

·         Patrol East Police Station – (316) 350-3460

Police will continue their investigation and anyone with information about the scam is urged to call WPD detectives at 268-4407 or Crime Stoppers at 267-2111.
