Four players suspended after brawl at KU-KSU basketball game

The Big 12 conference has suspended two players from Kansas and two from Kansas State after a fight that broke out at the end of the KU-KSU basketball game Tuesday night.

Kansas junior forward Silvio De Sousa was suspended for 12 games.  KU coach Bill Self had announced earlier that De Sousa was suspended indefinitely.   Forward David McCormack was suspended for two games.

For Kansas State, forward James Love was suspended for 8 games and forward Antonio Gordon was suspended three games.

The Big 12 has also reprimanded both programs for violations of the conference’s sportsmanship policies as a result of players leaving the bench area during the incident.

The actions follow Tuesday night’s 81-60 win over Kansas State that ended with a brawl between the two teams.  De Sousa was captured on camera throwing punches and was seen lifting a stool over his head briefly.

The fight moved from the court into the disabled section of the stands.  There are no reports of fans being injured.

Self released the following statement today:

“I have suspended Silvio De Sousa indefinitely pending the final outcome of the review by KU and the Big 12 Conference. As I said last night, we are disappointed in his actions and there is no place in the game for that behavior.”
