Governor appoints new adjutant general for Kansas

Governor appoints new adjutant general for Kansas

Kansas governor Laura Kelly has appointed Brigadier General David Weishaar as the new adjutant general for the state.  He will take over with the retirement of General Lee Tafanelli, who will resign on March 31st.

Weishaar is now serving as the commander of the Kansas Air National Guard and also serves as Assistant Adjutant General-Air.   Governor Kelly said General Weishaar is highly qualified and prepared to step up in his new role.   The adjutant general is the principal military advisor to the governor and he oversees activities of the Kansas Army and Air National Guard.  He also will serve as director of the Kansas Division of Emergency Management and as director of Kansas Homeland Security.

Weishaar has over 39 years of service and he has previously served as commander of the 184th Intelligence Wing, and he served as commander and deputy commander of the 184th Mission Support Group.   He has a bachelor of science in Human Resources Management from Friends University.

Governor Kelly expressed thanks to General Tafanelli for his service to the people of Kansas as adjutant general, and she said his efforts have helped in dealing with disasters such as tornadoes and the recent wildfires across the state.
