Traffic signals planned for several Wichita locations

The city of Wichita will be working to install traffic signals at several locations this year to deal with increased traffic.

City engineer Gary Janzen said projects that are planned for 2020 include signals for 37th Street North and Tyler Road, I-235 and West Street and the 3500 block of North Rock Road.

Janzen said the Rock Road project is for an area north of K-96 with commercial and retail businesses on both sides of the roadway, and he said signals will help traffic move in and out of the area safer.  He said it will also help with traffic flow for the signal at K-96 and Rock Road.

Janzen said the Kansas Department of Transportation is working on a project soon to rebuild the ramps on the west side of the I-235 and West Street interchange, so the city’s project to signalize the ramp terminals will become part of that project.

The city council has approved a budget of $525,000 for the city’s traffic signalization program for 2020.
