A Wichita woman has been charged in the case of a dog that was found locked inside a crate and then put into a dumpster.

26-year-old Raykesha Hardyway has made her first appearance in Sedgwick County District Court.  She has been charged with a misdemeanor count of animal cruelty.

The dog, a 2-year-old pit bull named Bowie, was found locked in a metal cage inside a dumpster outside an apartment complex near Pawnee and Oliver on January 8.  He was starving and at least 20 pounds under weight.

He was taken to an emergency veterinarian and is recovering well, according to Wichita Animal Action League.  What happened to Bowie was caught on surveillance camera and  Hardyway was later arrested.

She is being held on a $25,000 bond.  Her next court appearance has been scheduled for February 13.
