Volunteers are working with the United Way and VA to count Wichita’s homeless population.
This annual count is needed to get federal funding that helps with outreach and care programs.
Last year’s Point-In-Time Homeless Count showed a 3.5-percent rise in overall homelessness, though chronic homelessness was down 39-percent. The decrease is credited to more beds available in transitional housing programs.
The total homeless count in 2019 was 593.
