Eisenhower Airport sets passenger record

Wichita’s Eisenhower Airport set a new passenger record in 2019.

Through the year, the airport saw 1,749,906 passengers come through. That beats the old record, set in 2018, by 84,790 passengers. December of 2019 also became the most traveled month.  This is the third year in a row the airport has set a new passenger record.

“While we celebrate a record year of passenger activity in 2019, we are aware of the challenges in the airline industry and need continued support from our travelers in order to expand to more destinations,” Victor White, Director of Airports, said. “We are appreciative of the outstanding response by our customers to new airline services and lower pricing, and we are grateful to our airline partners for their commitment to our market and providing connectivity to the global economy for our region.”

The Eisenhower attributes the increases in ridership in large part to Frontier offering flights to Denver starting in 2018.  The I Fly Wichita initiative is also getting some of the credit. This was launched in 2019  to promote the use of Wichita’s airport to improve service and help the local economy.
