The Kansas Highway Patrol said 17 students had minor injuries after a school bus accident Wednesday on a snowy Kansas Turnpike.
The bus was from Park Elementary School in Wichita, and it slid off the roadway and rolled into a ditch about 15 miles south of Emporia. The bus was carrying fourth and fifth-grade students and it was traveling north on the turnpike when the accident happened shortly before 10 a.m.
There were 36 students, two teachers, a chaperone and the driver on board the bus, and they were on the way to Topeka for a field trip.
The injured students were taken to a hospital in Newton for treatment. Students who weren’t hurt were taken to Emporia High School.
