The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is investigating several detention deputies.

On February 11, allegations were made that eight deputies were using, selling, and distributing steroids.   Sheriff Jeff Easter said the issue was looked into immediately and the following detention deputies were suspended with pay:

1. 27 year old White Male                   Employed 4 years
2. 28 year old White Male                   Employed 4 ½ years
3. 40 year old White Male                   Employed 16 years
4. 27 year old White Male                   Employed 6 ½ years
5. 29 year old White Male                   Employed 3 years
6. 46 year old White Male                   Employed 15 years
7. 28 year old White Male                   Employed 3 years
8. 25 year old White Female              Employed 3 years

The deputies are accused of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, a felony,  and unlawful possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.  Easter said the activity had been going on for about a year, and it appears that none of it took place inside the jail.

It will be up to the District Attorney’s office to decide on final charges in this case.   Sheriff Easter said there will also be an internal investigation.
