Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors Coast Guard Veteran, 88-year old  Robert James Nill, better known as “Mr. Bob”.  After his service in the Coast Guard, Bob entered a career in banking.  When he retired he became a crossing guard at Christ the King Catholilc School in Kansas City.  He loved being a crossing guard, it brought him joy and a sense of purpose.  A couple of days ago, Bob’s greater purpose was realized as he gave his life to save the life of 2 young children who stepped off the curb in front of a car that was speeding and not obeying Bob’s handheld stop sign.  Bob pushed the boys out of the way before he was stuck and killed.  Mr. Bob, The Veteran, The Crossing Guard, died a hero.  Thank you Bob for your service, the joy you brought the kids and for your heroism.
