KHP identifies victims of fatal Harvey County crash

UPDATE:  The Kansas Highway Patrol has identified the victims of a fatal crash Friday in Harvey County.

A westbound pickup collided with an eastbound passenger car on Highway 50 just east of Burrton.  The KHP said the pickup was trying to pass another vehicle when it came upon  an eastbound car, and both vehicles apparently swerved onto the shoulder trying to avoid a collision.

Three people in the car were killed, and they were identified as 63-year-old Robert England, 62-year-old Tresia England and 11-year-old Gage England, all from Hutchinson.

The three people in the pickup were taken to a Wichita hospital.

(previous story)

The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash just east of Burrton in Harvey County.

It happened shortly before 11 a.m. Friday on Highway 50.  3 people are confirmed to have died at the scene, while 3 others are being treated for injuries.

Trooper Ben Gardner said the crash is under investigation but it appears that a westbound pickup was trying to pass other vehicles when it collided almost head-on with an eastbound car.  The vehicles collided on the shoulder, so it appears they tried to avoid the crash but swerved to the shoulder at the same time.  An accident team was on the scene into the afternoon, and Highway 50 was closed between Sand Hill and Prairie Lake roads for several hours.

The names of the victims have not been released.  Gardner said most of them were adults and one was school-age.
