A group of 28 firefighters from Sedgwick and Sumner counties helped to battle a wildfire in the Oklahoma panhandle last weekend.
A joint task force had eight brush pumper trucks and two large water tenders involved in the fire Sunday in Beaver County, Oklahoma. They helped to control a fire south of the town of Beaver and worked with crews from the Oklahoma Forestry Service to build a fire containment line. They also patrolled the town and worked on overhaul operations on several homes that were lost.
Oklahoma officials said the fire traveled 19 miles north to south and burned over 29,000 acres. Early reports indicated that ten homes and five other structures were destroyed in the fire.
