Textron Aviation has announced that it will put most of its U.S. workers on a four-week furlough, starting March 23rd.
The furlough will affect 7,000 workers in Wichita, and they will not be paid for that time off. The company says employees can use vacation and earned time off during the furlough.
Employees were notified of the furlough Wednesday morning, and reports said the company met with the Kansas Department of Commerce Tuesday to inform them of the decision. Textron has around 9,000 workers in Wichita.
Company officials said the decision will allow the company to do its part in containing the spread of the coronavirus through social distancing.
