Third case of Covid-19 confirmed in Sedgwick County

A third case of Covid-19 has been confirmed in Sedgwick County.

The announcement came from County Manager Tom Stolz as he addressed the Sedgwick County Commission Monday afternoon.  Today’s meeting follow’s Sunday’s meeting where the county asked for management to draft a shelter-in-place order.

Earlier in the day, Governor Laura Kelly announced she would be issuing a new executive order effective Tuesday morning, limiting public gatherings to 10 people or less.  There are now 83 cases in Kansas.

The majority are in northeast Kansas, where several counties have ordered residents shelter-in-place.  If a shelter-in-place order is enacted locally, there would be multiple exemptions to businesses and services that are considered vital.

Grocery, gas, and convenience stores can remain open.  Restaurants would be required to close their dining areas, but can still offer drive-thru and some carry out.

Health care, and employees in infrastructure roles such as electricity, gas, water, construction would be exempt.  Newspaper, TV, and radio employees would also be exempt from shelter-in-place.
