Wichita Public Schools is changing how they are distributing information packets for their children’s continuing education at home.

They have expanded the service hours for pickup to 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 2 p.m. for this week only.  Starting next week, packets will be mailed to students homes.

The district says it is important that your child’s school has your current address.  The packets are only for pre-kindergarten through 8th grade.

For high school students, teachers are working to reach out to families and the district is working to get technology into the hands of students to help them continue their academic goals.  The district encourages families that have access to use the district website to access their children’s packet information.

The district says they will also be working to close access to all playgrounds at Wichita schools to help prevent the spread of Covid-19.  The decision was based on guidance from the health department.

“Believe me, I recognize the angst and unhappiness this will create with our communities, but the reality is that we cannot assure that our playground won’t become a harbor for community spread of the Coronavirus.” said Superintendent Dr. Alicia Thompson.  “As we look ahead to the anticipated mid-April peak of the Coronavirus in our community, it is imperative that we take the county’s guidance on the matter.”
