Police release more details on Wichita chase

UPDATE:  Wichita police have three teenagers in custody after a chase Friday evening that began in the southeast part of the city and ended in Butler County.

Police officer Paul Cruz said in a press release that officers tried to stop a car around 7 p.m. in the area of Harry and Webb Road, and the driver briefly stopped but then speed off.  A chase began and the driver lost control near Harry and Andover Road and hit several trees.

Three people ran from the vehicle and officers arrested two 17-year-old passengers.  The 18-year-old driver was caught later in the night and taken into custody.  The driver was booked for evading and eluding officers, traffic charges and active warrants.  The 17-year-old passengers were arrested for obstruction of a police officer.

No injuries were reported from the chase.

Police had two people in custody and then caught up with a third suspect Friday evening after a chase that led from southeast Wichita into Butler County.

Officers had stopped a car on an investigation of a shots-fired report, and the car sped east on Harry.  The car crashed near South Prairie Creek and officers arrested two people from the car.  A third person, who was believed to be armed, ran away and officers were searching an area south of Andover into the late night hours.

Butler County dispatchers told KFDI News the third suspect was caught around 11 p.m.  Andover police also reported on social media that the suspect was caught.  No further details have been released by Wichita police at this time.
