The Butler County sheriff’s office says search teams found remains Saturday morning in the Little Walnut River near Leon, and they are believed to be the remains of a child who went missing after her father drover his pickup into the river.

Sheriff’s deputies, EMS and rescue teams and firefighters from the Leon and Augusta fire departments found the remains just after 10 a.m.

The remains are believed to be a 20-month-old girl who had been missing since March 11th.  Her father, 44-year-old Christopher Johnson, drove his pickup into the Little Walnut River on the evening of March 11th, as law enforcement officials approached him.   The officers were investigating a report of a domestic disturbance.    Johnson’s body was found later but the girl was still missing.

Butler County undersheriff Tony Wilhite said in a press release that the remains were found about 3,700 feet downriver from the point where the pickup had gone into the water. The girl’s name is not being released.
