Google is using its resources to track how people are moving during this pandemic, and comparing the data to numbers from earlier in the year.

Overall in Kansas, trips for retail and recreation are down by just over one-third. Travel for work is down by 30-percent.

The state’s stay home order doesn’t actually force people to stay inside, and with a lot of people out of work and school, park visits are up. Statewide, travel to public parks jumped about 70-percent. Data for park visits can vary by county though, with Johnson County seeing nearly triple the rate of parks visits, while Sedgwick County only saw a 76-percent rise.

Governor Kelly’s stay home order includes outdoor activities as essential, but asks people to observe social distancing and keep groups small. Although parks are open, some playgrounds may be closed to help keep the virus from spreading.
