Ascension Via Christi asking for cloth masks

Now that the CDC recommends cloth masks be worn in public, Ascension Via Christi is asking anyone who can sew masks to help them out.

“We are seeking donations of cloth masks that can be given to patients and visitors to wear as they enter our hospitals and clinics and to associates whose roles are non-patient facing,” says David Alexander, president of the Via Christi Foundation, who is coordinating all community donations. “We did not originally request these, but with the CDC’s recent change of direction they are now needed.”

People are urged to continue to observe social distancing, but the CDC now says simple cloth masks may help prevent the spread of COVID-19 by people who are not showing symptoms. N95 and surgical masks are not being suggested, in an effort to keep them available for medical staff and first responders.

“No specific design is required, but masks with thin elastic loop ears are preferred,” says Alexander.

Masks can be dropped off at the front main entrance at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis, between 9 a.m and 3 p.m. on weekdays.
