No charges will filed against officers involved in a shooting in downtown Wichita that happened January 10, 2019.

It happened outside of the probation office located near 9th and North Main Street in downtown Wichita.  29-year-old Geoffrey Morris had outstanding warrants for aggravated robbery, aggravated battery, assault, use of a deadly weapon, and other charges.

Police had learned that Morris would be taking his girlfriend to the probation office that afternoon.  Two officers, and an officer with the Kansas Department of Corrections were there and approached Morris, who was sitting in a red car, parked outside of the office.

As officers made their presence known, Morris put the car into reverse, striking the SUV belonging to the KDOC officer.  He then pulled the car forward, reportedly nearly striking one of the police officers.

Sedgwick County District Attorney Marc Bennett says a female officer opened fire, firing 12 shots.  3 of the shots struck, once in the head, once in the shoulder, and a graze wound to the arm.

Morris would later die at a Wichita hospital.  DA Bennett has determined that no charges will be filed against the officers involved based on the evidence he was presented.
