Sedgwick County reports new clusters of COVID-19 cases

Sedgwick County health officials have identified two new clusters of coronavirus cases.  One involves a long-term care facility with 13 cases and the other cluster is a local business with less than five cases.  The county is not releasing the names of the facility and the business.

The county has identified a total of eight clusters, and a cluster is defined as two or more non-household COVID-19 cases identified in a certain time and place.

With an increase in swabs, the county now has the capability to take samples from all residents and staff in long-term care facilities if there is just one confirmed case.  All residents in the newest cluster are now being tested.   The county said the health department has investigated all confirmed cases and contacts, and they believe the new clusters are contained with no risk to the general public.

Sedgwick County commissioners have canceled a special meeting scheduled for Tuesday to talk about a plan for reopening the local economy.  Commission chairman Pete Meitzner said the county is still waiting on information from the state.   Commissioners will hear an update on COVID-19 and they will have more discussions on stay at home orders at their regular meeting on Wednesday.
