Wesley Medical Center reports no surge in coronavirus cases

Officials at Wesley Medical Center said Monday they have not seen a surge in cases of the COVID-19 virus, and the hospital is ready to start going back to normal operations in early May.

Wesley Healthcare CEO Bill Voloch said that coronavirus patients have been isolated in two units, and that has protected other patients and staff.  He said there have been no staff members or non-coronavirus patients who have been infected.    He said the hospital has already reached the point where a peak number of cases was expected, and it has not had the spike that was originally feared.

Voloch also said that the hospital has been able to maintain a good supply of personal protective equipment, and it has had plenty of ventilators available.   He said there are only two coronavirus patients using ventilators and another 20 non-coronavirus patients who are on ventilators.

Voloch said the hospital will begin moving back toward normal operations and will begin doing elective surgeries and imaging procedures on a limited basis starting Monday, May 4th.   He said the hospital and its staff are very comfortable with the current situation.   Hospital officials will begin discussions next week on policies relating to visitors and there may be some easing of restrictions.
