Wichita Chamber leaders support reopening of local economy

The Wichita Regional Chamber of Commerce is stating support for efforts to reopen and restart the area economy when stay-at-home orders are lifted.

The Chamber has sent a letter to Sedgwick County commissioners, who are having discussions and a possible vote Wednesday on a plan for reopening economic activity.  The letter is urging commissioners to focus on the rate of coronavirus cases in the county, rather than the total number of cases.   Chamber leaders say commissioners should also continue to work with the health care industry in keeping track of cases and recoveries.

The Chamber said in a press release Monday that it is committed to working with area partners to restore and reignite the economy, while encouraging area businesses to continue to take steps to protect against the spread of the coronavirus.

Chamber chair Junetta Everett the group supports a measured and responsible approach to easing restrictions.
