Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors a kind nurse, a therapy dog and Vietnam Veteran Joe Tasby. Joe is blind and needed his service dog Cupid. One day, Joe went to the hospital because he thought he had torn a shoulder tendon lifting weights. While in the hospital doctors learned Joe also had lung disease and a heart arrhythmia, so they admitted him. Joe immediately worried who would take care of his dog. Nurse Barbara Borbeck stepped in, helped care for Cupid while Cupid not only stayed by Joe’s side but provided comfort, smiles and therapy to other patients on the floor. Joe called Barbara, “Incredible” and recognized her and the rest of the staff as real heroes. Thank you Barbara for being a helper and thank you Joe for your service.
