Construction begins on west Wichita street project

A portion of a west Wichita street will have limited traffic as construction begins on a major improvement project.

West Street will have one lane of traffic in each direction between Kellogg and Harry, and left turns will not be allowed at Harry.   There will be some changes for access to businesses during the construction.

The project will widen West Street to five lanes with a center left turn lane.  There will also be drainage and water line improvements, sidewalks on both sides of the street, and traffic signals will be upgraded with pedestrian safety improvements at Harry Street and at Walker.   Intersections and driveways will have larger areas for turns to help commercial traffic.

The $4.4 million project is expected to be completed in the summer of 2021.
