The death of unarmed George Floyd while in police custody in Minneapolis has sparked outrage and protests across the nation; and demonstrations will be held in Wichita and Hutchinson over the weekend.
A peaceful “Justice For Floyd” rally will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday outside the Wichita Police Department substation on E. 21st St.
Wichita Police Chief Gordon Ramsay is scheduled to attend the demonstration, and will be speaking to the crowd. Mayor Brandon Whipple is also expected to be in attendance.
A peaceful “Black Lives Matter” demonstration is also scheduled for Sunday from 2pm-4pm in Hutchinson on West 1st Avenue.
Organizers of that rally have coordinated with Hutchinson police.
