The Greater Wichita YMCA is moving forward with a phased plan to restart activities at all of its locations after the coronavirus shutdown.

The YMCA branches have been open with limited services, and more activities will be added during the next few weeks.   On June 1st, the racquetball courts will reopen and the summer camp season begins.

On June 8th, the branches will be back to mostly normal activities with locker rooms, indoor pools and kid zones reopening.   Group exercise classes will be meeting and competitive swim teams will begin activities.

On June 15th, sports practices will begin.  The outdoor water parks will reopen June 20th and the saunas, hot tubs and coffee stations will reopen on June 22nd.

YMCA officials said the reopening plan was based on feedback from the community.   YMCA president and CEO Ronn McMahon said members can keep their memberships frozen until they feel it is safe to return.   He said there are also income-based rates available for people who are financially struggling because of the pandemic.
