WSU to ask for tuition increase

Wichita State University president Jay Golden said he will be asking the state board of regents for a tuition increase for the 2020-21 academic year.

In an update to the university community on Thursday, Dr. Golden said some cost-cutting measures have been taken to deal with the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, and the university will continue to take precautions and make difficult decisions, but these actions have not been enough.

Dr. Golden said he will propose to the Kansas Board of Regents a two percent increase, and that will mean an increase of $67 per student per semester.    He said he is not proposing an increase in student fees, and there will be no additional fees for hybrid courses.

The length of the fall semester will remain unchanged, beginning August 17th and ending December 10th.   The two-day Fall Break has been canceled, and a Thanksgiving Break will begin Monday, November 23rd.  All in-person instruction will be completed by Friday, November 20th.

Fees for student housing will only be charged through November 20th, unless a student chooses to stay after that date.  Those who stay in student housing after November 20th will be charged a daily rate.
