A Sunday rally in support of George Floyd grew into a large gathering that continued overnight.
This eventually blocked the intersection of 21st and Arkansas, though the gathering stayed peaceful. Videos show people in attendance doing burnouts and donuts in the intersection. Some people at the gathering held signs that showed support between the black and Hispanic communities.
Police were reportedly staged in the area but never appeared to try and disperse the crowd.
Wichita saw several George Floyd rallies on Saturday. One was at the WPD North substation, and featured city and community leaders. Police Chief Gordon Ramsay and City Councilman Brandon Johnson were among those who spoke to attendees.
Topeka also saw a rally on Saturday, and all of the gatherings in Kansas appeared to have stayed non-violent.
This is what’s happening at Arkansas and 21st Street in Wichita. A few hundred people here watching cars do donuts and spin out. On of the people in the gathering says this is a peaceful event about unity. #kwch12 pic.twitter.com/pDAri5G6Zo
