Wichita man sentenced for child trafficking

A Wichita man has been sentenced for trafficking an underage girl in 2018.

27-year-old James Sexton will spend 144 months in prison. He was convicted of  commercial sexual exploitation of a child after being caught by WPD’s Exploited and Missing Child Unit.

The group had been on a special assignment working to find and rescue juvenile sex trafficking victims. Officers were answering online escort ads, and this led them to Sexton on August 23 of 2018. An undercover officer set up a meeting and Sexton drove a 15-year-old girl and 22-year-old woman to a hotel. Sexton was arrested after an exchange of money. The 15-year-old girl turned out to be a runaway from another county.

The woman who walked the girl into the hotel is identified as Kelly Holt, of Wichita. She’s been convicted of aggravated endangerment of a child and unlawful use of a communication facility. Holt has not been sentenced yet.

The 15-year-old girl in this case led police to a home in the 2400 block of South St. Clair. SWAT broke down a fortified door and arrested several people in connection to what was described as a human trafficking ring, on August 24 of 2018.
