Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors Army Veteran Trent Tweddale. Trent and his wife live on a farm with their dog Loki, who they rescued from a kill shelter 5 years ago. Loki liked to take swims near a seasonal body of water that had recently taken on more water due to a tropical storm. Never had they encountered an alligator until the day they did and a 13-foot alligator grabbed Loki. Without thinking, Trent jumped in the water and began to try and wrestle Loki free. When pulling on the leash didn’t work he began hitting the alligator on the head with one hand while calling his wife on the phone with his other hand, who was in the house several hundred yards away. While the vet gives it a 50/50 chance of saving Loki’s leg, he’ll live. Trent, who did 9 years in the Army, said he didn’t hesitate to act, but it was the most traumatic thing he had ever been through. Thank you for your bravery Trent and thank you for your service.
