Wichita sets up phone line to report mask violations

After the Wichita City Council voted to enforce Governor Kelly’s mask mandate, there have been questions about how to report violations.

The city asks that potential violations not be reported using 911, as dispatch covers the whole county, not just Wichita. Instead, potential mask order violations should be reported by calling 316-303-8255. If you do not want to make a call, you can send messages to masks@wichita.gov.

This mask order is set to expire on August 11, but until then, it requires people in Wichita to wear face coverings in most public settings. The city’s new ordinance includes fines for individuals and businesses who are not following the order. There are several exemptions for things like eating at a restaurant, young kids, and for people with certain disabilities.

Wichita’s City Council met on July 3rd to put this mask order in place, after Sedgwick County Commissioners voted not to enforce Governor Kelly’s order.
