The Kansas Department of Corrections reports an employee at the Topeka prison died from COVID-19 complications.

Officials say 74-year-old Richard Rose passed away over the weekend. Details on other medical conditions were not released. The KDOC says Rose was a Facility Maintenance Supervisor and spent most of his time offsite.

“We extend our deepest sympathy to Richard’s family and to those who served alongside him for so many years,” says KDOC Secretary,Jeff Zmuda. “The KDOC family is a tight-knit group and these deaths, and those of our residents, have been extremely difficult.”

Rose is the third KDOC employee whose death has been tied to the COVID-19 outbreak. Two employees at the Lansing prison passed away after catching the virus.
