Ascension Via Christi has been using convalescent plasma to treat patients with severe COVID-19.
More than 60 patients at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis have participated in the trial, which has been led by the Mayo Clinic. The trial uses plasma from patients who have recovered from the virus to help others who currently have it.
Trial participants must be adult inpatients who have either severe or life threatening COVID-19.
Janie Krull, Director of Research at Ascension Via Christi, said that while the trial is still underway, the majority of patients have improved enough to be discharged from the hospital.
